UK Government Says Direct Attacks on Indian High Commission in London Not Acceptable

LONDON: UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on Thursday stated that any direct attacks on the Indian High Commission in London are completely not acceptable.

He pointed out that the UK government has informed the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, as well as the Government of India that their topmost priority was the safety of the High Commission staff.

Cleverly took to Twitter to say, “Any direct attacks on the Indian High Commission in London are completely unacceptable. We have made it clear to Vikam Doraiswami and the Government of India that the safety of staff at the High Commission is paramount”

Cleverly’s comments came on the heels of posters of the pro-Khalistani “Kill India” rally, that feature the Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram K Doraiswami and Consul General at the Indian Embassy in Birmingham, Dr Shashank Vikram, ahead of the July 8 Khalistan Freedom Rally.

These posters falsely refer to them as “the faces of Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killers in Vancouver” and also wrongly say that Dr Vikram is Consul General at the Indian Embassy in London. These posters seemed to be aimed at endorsing the so-called Khalistan Freedom Rally on July 8.

INSIGHT UK, a social movement of British Hindus and Indians, has shared the poster on Twitter. The said tweet read: “A threat poster with pictures of top Indian diplomats in UK released by Khalistani extremists. Another attack at High Commission of India, London planned by Khalistani extremist groups on July 8.”

The latest development comes only days after Khalistani protestors tried to burn down the Indian Consulate in San Francisco on July 2. Violent Khalistani protestors attempted to torch the consulate to ‘avenge’ the killing of the pro-Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

Reports said two men dressed in black overalls came to the entrance gate of the consulate and painted pro-Khalistani graffiti on the walls, at around 1:30 am on Sunday. They were then seen spraying some inflammable substance using used fuel cans on the premises of the consulate, before setting it on fire and running away. The San Francisco Fire Department arrived at the consulate within minutes of the incident and put out the fire, said media reports.

No injuries to any diplomatic staff were caused due to the incident, said reports.

Moreover, this is not the first time that posters emerged saying that Indian diplomats were held responsible for the killing of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June this year. Pro-Khalistani members have earlier issued threats through posters to senior Indian diplomats posted in Australia, Canada and the US.
