New Delhi: The city's fire department on Tuesday said that at least 46 migrants were found dead inside a tractor-trailer on Monday in Texas's San Antonio.
As per reports, the truck was found next to the railroad in a remote area on the city's Southern outskirts.
The San Antonio Fire Department said 16 other people found inside the trailer were transported to the hospital for heat stroke and exhaustion, including four minors.
''Three people have taken in custody following the incident,'' media reports quoted an official as saying.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Mexico's Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard called the suffocation of the migrants in the truck the ''tragedy in Texas''.
''The nationality of the victims is yet to confirm,'' he added.
As per some media reports, the incident appears to be one of the most deadly recent incidents of human smuggling along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Notably, there have been a record number of migrant crossings at the US-Mexico border in recent months which invited criticisms of the immigration policies of US President Joe Biden, a democrat.
