GENEVA : World Health Organisation (WHO) issuing a medical warning stated that, two cough syrups produced in a Noida-based company, Marion Biotech should be banned for minors in Uzbekistan.
On Wednesday, WHO mentioned that Substandard Medical Products by Marion Biotech are the products that has not achieved the desired quality standards or specifications.
Therefore these products are considered out of specification. This particular WHO Medical Product Alert indicates two contaminated products was identified in Uzbekistan and information was sent to WHO on the 22nd of December, 2022.
WHO mentioned about two products namely, AMBRONOL syrup and DOK-1 Max syrup in the alert released in the website. The manufacturer of these products has not submitted any sort of assurance regarding safety of the products until now, WHO mentioned in the statement.
The Noida-based company Marion Biotech has been shaking since the news of death of the children after consumption of the cough syrup in Uzbekistan. The laboratory experts suggested that both the syrup include an excess amount of diethylene glycole and ethylene glycol which resulted in contamination of both the products.
Furthermore, the IN Health Agency added that, the substandard items mentioned in the WHO alert can be hazardous to children. On 22nd December, Uzbekistan claimed that a number of 18 children lost their lives due to consumption of medicine manufactured and produced by the Marion Biotech.
In December, Union Health Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya informed that all manufacturing activities has been restricted in the Noida-based company as a response to the reports of contaminated cough syrup. The drug inspector of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Vaibhav Babbar stated that, production license of Marion Biotech has been suspended as the company has failed to provide necessary documents
He further mentioned that, the department still awaits for the sample results.
