Vijayadashami

Every year, at the completion of Navaratri, Vijayadashami is celebrated. It is also known as Dasara, Dashain or Dussehra, and is a prominent Hindu holiday. It is celebrated on the 10th day in the month of Ashvin, which is the 7th month in the Hindu Calendar. It is based on Luni-Solar (position of the moon and the sun) calculations and occurs between September-October months in the standard Gregorian calendar.

In different areas of India, Vijayadashami is commemorated and observed for distinct causes. Vijayadashami represents the culmination of Durga Puja in India's Northeastern, some Northern, and Eastern areas, commemorating the victory of Goddess Durga over Rakshas Mahishasura (the monster in the form of a buffalo) for restoration dharma (righteousness). The event is known as Dussehra in the Central, Western, and Northern states. In those parts of India, it commemorates deity Rama's triumph over the evil king of Lanka, Ravana, and symbolises the conclusion of Ramlila in certain areas. Arjuna alone devastated over a million troops and vanquished all the Kuru warriors, inclusive of the great Bhishma; the father-son duo, Drona and Ashwatthama; one of the greatest archers, Karna; along with Kripa, on the very same day, demonstrating the triumph of good over evil.

Processions with clay sculptures of Durga, Ganesha, Lakshmi, Kartikeya, and Saraswati are carried to a nearby waterway or ocean, followed by songs, dancing, and chanting, following which the figures are submerged in water for disintegration and goodbye. On the other hand, on Dasara, the colossal effigies of Ravana, symbolising evil, are set ablaze with pyrotechnics, signaling the end of evil. The celebration also kicks off the countdown to Diwali, India's most major light festival, which takes place twenty days following Vijayadashami.

Happy Dussehra Wishes

Durga Puja's five-day celebrations come to an end with Dussehra, a highly celebrated event. Lord Ram's triumph over the wicked King Ravana is commemorated on this day. Devotees gather to wish the goddess goodbye in various regions of India. The event was held on October 15 this year and even though things are a little different now that the COVID-19 epidemic is still ongoing, you may commemorate this day by sharing these greetings.

"May this Dussehra fill your life with happy moments, positivity, and fulfill all your dreams. Happy Dussehra!"

"Today is the day to begin a new chapter in your life to pledge to always do the right thing, to promise to follow in Lord Shri Ram's footsteps, to promise to meet all the challenges with fortitude and optimism. Best wishes on Dussehra."

"Happy Dussehra. On this auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, may goddess Durga take away all your worries and bless you with health and prosperity."

"Happy Dussehra. May the colour, bliss, and beauty of this festival spread love and joy among all."

"May this Dussehra burn all the gloom and misery on earth and bring you happiness and prosperity. Happy Vijayadashami."
