It is bordered to the north and east by Assam and to the south by Bangladesh. This region is well-known for its abundant rainfall, subtropical forests, and diverse plant and animal life. The western boundary is defined by the Brahmaputra River, sometimes known as the Luit River in the area.

Nohkalikai Waterfalls

Nohkalikai Waterfall, India's tallest, is not to be missed and is located in the state's East Khasi Hills. The 1115-foot waterfall is a natural treasure. It looks like thick, white rope hanging from a green cliff. This Meghalaya tourism site is near Cherrapunji.

Legends about this site add to its allure. Avoid visiting the waterfall during the monsoon season, since clouds may obscure the view.

Living root bridge

This 3-kilometre-long live-root bridge is 2400 feet tall and located in Nongriat Village of Sohra. People take a 7-hour trek through Cherrapunji's rainforest to reach this famous bridge.

Umiam Lake

Umiam Lake will change your mind on man-made lakes, and it is situated in Shillong's north. The lake covers 221 square km. Umiam is a great site to admire nature's creativity.

The sunset is mesmerising. This reservoir is surrounded by verdant hills. Umiam Lake offers boating, sailing, and skiing.

Elephant Falls

Meghalaya's fame is largely due to its many waterfalls. Elephant Falls is a popular one. It is a 3-tiered waterfall amid a beautiful woodland. It is in Upper Shillong. Ironically, the sound of water rushing against solid rocks is relaxing.

Mawlynnong Village

It was 2003's cleanest village in India and Asia. But cleanliness isn't what makes it one of Meghalaya's top destinations. God's splendour has made Mawlynnong Village known as "God's Own Garden."

Laitlum canyon

This less-visited Meghalaya tourism attraction is worth a visit for several reasons. This home has a 3000-step staircase that allows you to live on the edge while looking at lovely panoramas. Sunsets and sunrises make its picturesque hill slopes appear otherworldly.

Dawki, Umngot river

Dawki, India's and Bangladesh's border city, is a trading centre. Dawki's crystal-clear Umngot River attracts tourists. A boat's shadow can be seen on the river-bed. Another incentive to visit this river is the Dawki Bridge, a suspension bridge.

Mawsynram

If you enjoy rain, Mawsynram has plenty. It receives huge rainfall and it is the world's rainiest spot. This hilly village is populated with clouds. It's on a Khasi Hills ridge. Besides rain, this location is notable for its natural wealth.

Shillong view point

Meghalaya's capital city is a perfect blend of old charm and fresh essence, with falls, parks, peaks, landscapes, and museums to keep travellers' heads spinning. From here you can get a bird's view of the city.

Mawsmai cave

Caves are full of mysteries, old and fun and if you agree then you must visit this cave. This stunning limestone cave attracts many.

Mawphlang Sacred Forest

It is a popular and sacred tropical rainforest in Meghalaya. This forest bewilders nature lovers. This woodland is home to some 1,000-year-old flora and trees.

The local community's views about the forest's holiness also make it interesting. Locals believe the forest is home to a tiger or leopard deity named Labasa who protects the community. It is quite spooky because it is said that the deity gets angry at you if you break the forest rules. It is in Nongrum, Meghalaya.

KremLiatPrah

This 34-km cave is India's longest natural cave and is projected to grow as more connecting caves are found.

KremLiatPrah is one of 150 caves in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. It is in the East Jaintia Hills' Shnongrim Ridge.

Seven sisters falls

These magnificent, seven-segmented falls are 1 km south of Mawsmai Village. Water streams flow from the dense forest and plummet 315 metres down the plateau, creating a heavenly sight.

Siju cave

It is India's third-longest cave system, and a must-see for history buffs in Meghalaya. It has world-class river passages. It has limestone rock formation. The cave is dark because sunlight can't enter.

Lalong park

Meghalaya is known for its green landscapes and wildlife getaways. It has several sacred groves in the Jaintia Hills District. The park's view of Pynthorwah Valley enhances its natural beauty.

Lady Hydari Park

Don Bosco Museum

The Don Bosco Museum, one of Asia's finest and largest museums. The museum displays artwork, attire, handicrafts, and weapons of the indigenous people. This museum showcases Northeast Indian culture.

Balphakram National Park

Balpakram National Park's exotic flora and fauna and picturesque landscapes will leave a lasting impression on you. It covers 200 square kilometres at 3000 feet. It has tigers, elephants, leopards, gibbons, barking deer, and golden cats. Due to myths, this park is also called "The Land of Spirits."

Mawthadraishan Peak

The top fish ponds make this place picturesque. The peak's panoramic views draw tourists.Clear days reveal the westward Garo Hills. Mawthadraishan Peak overlooks the Khasi Hills, the Himalayas, and Bangladesh. Trekking is the best way to see this area.

Nartiang monoliths

Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya's most interesting archaeology site, has the world's tallest monoliths. Nartiang Market has the largest collection of Khasi and Jaintia monoliths. Menhirs, Moo Shynrang, and Dolmens are included. These monoliths represent the Jaintias and Khasis.

Dain-Thlen Falls

The waterfall and its surroundings are ideal for nature and landscape photography. It is the most peaceful tourist spots.

Ward's lake

Also called Pollock's Lake, is an artificial lake in the middle of Shillong's greenery. It is horseshoe-shaped lake with cobblestone promenades. Calm lake waters, greenery, and walking around them are just what you need in the city.

MawkdokDympep Valley

Duwan Sing Syiem Bridge is the best place to capture this valley's breathtaking views on camera. It offers ziplining.

Nokrek National Park

You can see biodiversity here. The abundant flora and fauna draw daily crowds. Red pandas are the stars of the park.

Wah Kaba Falls

Monsoon visitors and picnickers love this seasonal waterfall. The hundred-metre-high fall, surrounded by thick foliage, seems lovely when clouds complete nature's exquisite composition. As the waterfall requires a short hike, it's popular with adventurers.

Arwah cave

Arwah Caves is a famous Meghalaya tourist place. The area has 30-million-year-old fossils of marine animals. This offbeat spot in Meghalaya exudes adventure.

Rainbow falls

The stream of water falling into the turquoise pool below is mesmerising and the rainbow-like reflections adds a new level of beauty.

Kynrem Falls

It is located in Thangkharang Park. The waterfalls are the 7th highest in India with three phases. The falls, which swell during the monsoons, are visible from several angles within the national park.

Park Thangkharang

This park is a scenic wonder, especially when it rains.

Motrop (KhohRamhah)

KhohRamhah, Pillar Rock, or Mothorp is located in Thangkharang National Park. The conical rock is mesmerising.

It's joined by two smaller rocks of similar shape, and a small stream which turns into a waterfall. This legend-filled spot is one of the National Park's best.

Tyrshi falls

These waterfalls on NH 44 between Shillong and Jowai require a short trek to reach. PynthorNein, a famous rice valley, is also visible. The waterfall emerges from the forest.

Thadlaskeim cave

This lake is supplied by a natural spring. History says that it was dug by an ancient chieftain and his students with their bows.

When the sun is out and the weather is clear, the water's reflection is beautiful. The lake is also sacred to Raid Mukhla believers.

David Scott Traut

David Scott built part of the famous horse cart trail in the Khasi Hills. It is 16-kilometre trek from Cherrapunji to Bangladesh, which connects Mawphlang and Ladmawphlang. This is a great spot for exploration of the Khasi culture's river streams, forests, meadows, and rock structures.
