This year Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chaturthi falls on Friday 4 February. People across the country on this day observe the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha with full enthusiasm and offers prayers to the idol.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival that is celebrated during Magha lunar month on Shukla Chathurthi as per the Hindu calendar.

The festival is known with different names like Varad Chathurthi, Tilkund Chathurthi, Kunda Chaturthi, Til Chaturthi and Magha Shukla Chathurthi and also observed as Ganesh Jayanti.

• Chathurthi tithi starts at 04:38 pm on the evening of 4 February 2022

• Chathurthi tithi ends at 03:47 pm on 5 February 2022

• The Mahurat for Madhyahna Ganesh Puja is at 11:30 pm

• Time to avoid sighting Moon at 09:23 pm

• The Shiva Yoga will remain till 07:10 pm on Friday.

• Ravi Yoga will be from 7:08 am in the morning to 3:58 pm afternoon.

SIGNIFICANCE:

Ganesh Chathurthi holds great significance as this day is meant for the Hindus to celebrate the arrival of Lord Ganesh on the planet Earth from Kailash Parvat along with his mother Goddess Parvati.

It is an auspicious festival for Hindus as the devotees believe that worshiping Ganapati on Ganesh Chathurthi wealth and happiness in their lives and families.

OBSERVANCES:

Devotes on this day wake up early in the morning and take a bath to worship Lord Ganesha. Gangajal (scared water) is sprinkled in areas where the idol of Ganesha will be placed by spreading a clean yellow cloth.

Akshat,roli and silverwork are applied and then flowers were offered to the idol along with betel nut, cardamon along other important offerings. Sesame laddus and modak are also offered and there is a special ritual of offering 21 laddus to Ganpati by providing the Dakshina.

Various matras are chanted by worshippers and they pray using incense sticks and lamps. Devotes observes fasting and before the Moon comes in the evening they worship Ganesha by reciting the story of Sankasthi and giving Prasad to friends and families.
