One night the king had a scary dream where he saw his father struggling in hell as he was being tortured. Being tense about what he saw in his dream the Raja shared everything with his ministers and asked them to find him a way in which his father gets salvation (Moksha).

The ministers suggested King Vaikhanasa go to the Parvat Muni where he could be able to solve his problems and as per the suggestion he went there and asked for guidance. The Puni told him about this father that he had committed major sins during his lifetime as he fought with his mother and had physical relations during her menstruation. For all this reason he is facing the punishment of afterlife hell.

Hearing what Puni said, King Vaikhanasa requested for the way through which his father can get salvation and on this Puni replied that he had to keep the fast of Mokshada Ekadashi and worship Lord Vishnu with a true heart which may help his father get freedom from the torture of hell. The King did whatever was told to him and succeeded in liberating his father from hell from then onwards the belief continued and Mokshada Ekadashi was observed with fastings.
