The Employees' Provident Fund was established on November
15, 1951, when the Employees' Provident Funds Ordinance was passed.
The Employees' Provident Funds Act of 1952 succeeded it. EPF was founded on March 4, 1952, at the headquarters in New Delhi, India. For such
accounts, the EPFO assigns a Universal Account Number (UAN).

Eligibility:
- It is compulsory for salaried employees earning
less than Rs.15,000 per month to open an EPF account. With the consent of the
Assistant PF Commissioner, anyone earning more than Rs.15,000 can also
register.
- Any company with more than 20 workers is
required to join the EPF Organization of India; a company with less than 20
employees can join voluntarily.
Other important
facts:
- This feature allows you to access the Member Passbook
for members who have signed up for the Unified Member Portal.
- After 6 hours of registration at the Unified
Member Portal, the Passbook will be accessible.
- Changes to credentials made on the Unified
Member Portal will take effect after 6 hours on this Portal.
- The entries in the passbook will have been
reconciled at the EPFO field offices.
- Exempted Establishments Members, Settled
Members, and InOperative Members will not be able to use the Passbook function.
How to access it?
To have access to your passbook, you must first register on
the EPFO website. You must first activate your Universal Account Number in
order to register (UAN).
- Visit
https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
- Click on Activate UAN.
- Enter your UAN, Aadhaar, PAN, and other personal
information.
- Click on 'Get Authorization Pin,' which will
prompt you to double-check the information you've supplied. Additionally, an
OTP will be delivered to your phone through SMS.
- Click 'Validate OTP and activate UAN' after
entering the OTP.

Contents of the
Passbook
- The establishment's id number and the company's
name (Employer).
- The member's ID as well as the member's name
(Employee).
- The EPFO office's name and kind.
- A contribution made by both the employer and the
employee.
- Employee and employer contributions to a monthly
depository and withdrawal.
- Contribution to the employee's pension account
on a monthly basis.
- The date and time of the passbook's printing are
also noted.
You must have an active Universal Account Number to view
your EPF account balance on the EPFO portal (UAN). You must go to
https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login.jsp and enter your UAN
and password to check your balance. You may check and download your EPF account
statement on the internet.
