World Water Day is observed internationally on 22 March every year with the aim to educate the value of water and its role in the survival of a living being.
The day is meant to raise awareness regarding the water crisis and highlight the needed improvement for water availability and hygiene sanitation.
A theme is chosen for the observation of international water day every year relating to the problems connected with the cause. The theme for this year's World Water Day is 'Groundwater, making the invisible visible.'
In 1992, the UN conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janerio took place and with the United Nations conference began the concept of International Water Day.
The day 22 March has been declared as World Water Day on the same year after the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to start the celebration of the day in 1993.
World Water Day holds great significance in the life of every individual as it is the prime need to survive on this planet as life is impossible without water resources.
Water shortage has become a major issue these days due to the increasing population, exploitation of natural resources and over-use and waste of water for different reasons.
Therefore observing the day by raising awareness about water as the foremost need has become essential in the current situation of Earth which is struggling.
World Water Day is celebrated for the conservation and preservation of water resources for the well-being of the future by taking necessary measures.
