Yogurt, yoghurt, or yoghourt we all love to eat it, as for us it is known as a healthy product and every parent want their babies to be healthy, but do you know that many yogurts/yoghurt contain full of sugar and you should not be lulled into thinking that yogurts eating is very healthy. The conclusion of it cames after the study had done by some of the researches that almost 900 yogurts that are a sale in a UK supermarket. The researchers from the University of Leeds have found that the organic yogurts that we eat were full of sugary types that contain more than 100g of sugar than the cola. The yogurts which consume less amount of sugar are only the natural and Greek-style yoghurts.

The study, that has been published in BMJ Open - comes as government health officials are encouraging manufacturers to reduce the amount of sugar consumed by the public. Yoghurts have been identified as one of the food types in which Public Health England wants to see progress. This research was undertaken shortly after the launch of the sugar-reduction programme.

Unsurprisingly, the sweet dish you love the most which are yogurt desserts has contained the most amount of sugar. Can you take any guesses? No, that is an average of 16.4g per 100g. This category also included some products that did not contain yogurts, such as chocolate mousse and creme caramel. The second most sugary product was organic yogurts with a typical 13.1g per 100g. Children's yogurts typically contained 10.8g per 100g, the equivalent of more than two sugar cubes, the study found. By comparison, a 100g serving of a typical cola contains 9g of sugar.

The National Health Service has recommended that the children that are aged four to six have not more than 19g of the sugar or just five sugar cubes for the whole day, and they also advised that those who aged under seven to 10 can only consume less than 24g daily. To be categorized as a low sugar there needs to be not more than 5g per 100g. Among all only, 9% of the products surveyed were below this threshold.

How much sugar was in the yogurt? If we talk about all kind of yogurts that are sell in the market they are Desserts yogurts that contain 16.4g per 100g, Organic with 13.1g per 100g, Flavoured with 12g per 100g, Fruit with 11.9g per 100g, Children's with 10.8g per 100g, Dairy alternatives with the amount of 9.2g per 100g, Drinks is with 9.1g per 100g, and Natural and Greek contain 5g per 100g.

Since the fieldwork for the study of the yogurts was carried out at the end of 2016 the progress has been made for reducing the sugar consumption from yogurts. As per the report, which is published in the month of May showed that the sugar content in yogurts had been reduced by 6% in the first year, making it the only food category to exceed the 5% target. By 2020, it is expected sugar will be reduced by 20%.
