The industries linked to production of defence equipment as also new industries interested in this sector is all set to receive a major boost as the Defence Minister on Sunday announced that the government will restrict import of 101 defence items, including light combat helicopters, transport aircraft, conventional submarines and cruise missiles etc by 2024. The Prime Minister's dream of Atamanirbhor Bharat will receive a big boost as about Rs 4 lakh crore will be invested in next five to seven years in defence manufacturing industries.

This will be a big step towards self-reliance in defence production as the dependency on the mercy of other countries will end. Further it will also offer great opportunity to our local talents to design as per our own requirement. Setting up of big manufacturing units will also help employment generation and the economy of the country will have a major upward impact, as at present huge amount of money is spent in purchasing defence equipment. The Prime Minister and Defence Minister deserve appreciation for taking such bold steps for the welfare of the country.
