Corruption in State government offices

In the wake of the last pay revision of the State government employees, many like us thought that the corruption in the government offices would be ebbing out. Then came the stern warning of the Chief Minister that there would be a zero tolerance on corruption. But with the passage of time, we could see how Chief Minister's zero-tolerance started losing its sheen. What we can understand is that the Forest department is the pioneer in corruption, followed by Chief Minister's own department 'Home' – where police plays a pivotal role. Many police officers' property speaks volume for what we contend. Of course, it would be wrong to give the ranking among the departments. Then comes – Water Resource, Public Health Engineer, Education, Health to name a few. That apart, Syndicate of coal, supari is yet another instance of corruption. A recent news item published in the print media suggests that the Social Welfare department, portfolio of which is held by Pramila Rani Brahma, has been rocked by a scam. It emerges from the report that in the name of supplying of Mekhla-Chadar there was a scam of Rs. 5.78 crore. Will the news of scams be confined to the paper or our State government would take steps to nab the culprits is not known to lesser mortals like us.
