The other side of picnics

Winter has come to the World in pursuit of eternal truth. Winter pleasantness is completely different. During the winter, people are busy picnicking around. The joy of eating with friends and family in the midst of the natural environment is unmatched by the warmth of winter, away from the monotony and mechanics. But nowadays, when there are picnics in different places, unnecessary chaos are observed. As a result, the entire picnic area is filled with noise pollution and the forest birds are terrified. In addition, some people leave a place after a picnic where they throw away plastic items and as a result the place becomes unsuitable for others to use. On the other hand, it causes soil and air pollution. The most unfortunate and worrying thing is that even educated people drink alcohol during picnics and pollute the environment. Such drunken people are also seen arguing with other picnic parties during the picnic. However, have a peaceful picnic at every picnic party. We wish this.

Emotion as a tool

Asomiya people have always been known as emotional people. In early 1980s riding high on emotion AGP led by student leader Prafulla Mahanta came to power. Emotion was running so high that in some places cheleng sador and gamosa were laid on road for Prafulla Mahanta and his team. Such was the welcome accorded to them. In the end, the AGP betrayed and played with the emotions of the people. Former AASU leaders Lurinjyoti Gogoi is again trying to create the same emotional wave in his favour. Thought myself is not a political analyst, but one thing I can guarantee is 'one cannot compare 1980s scenario with present day. People are more matured and politically aware of the happening. The AJP missed the trick and committed the same mistake which the AGP had done in 1980s. Instead of handing over the reins of power to a novice like Prafulla Mahanta they could have projected Dinesh Goswami who was much more competent. Now the same story is repeated in the AJP. Hours after joining the party, Lurinjyoti Gogoi was made the president of the party. A wait of 3-5 years would have made Lurinjyoti Gogoi more politically matured. Facing electoral challenge and shouting loud on the streets are not one and the same. Being in the AASU he had no responsibility as compared to sitting on the chair of an elected representative. Till a few weeks back Lurinjyoti Gogoi was coming in front of the camera and criticizing the BJP, Congress, AGP, etc. All these parties have not retaliated because he was associated with a non-political organization but now after joining active politics merely criticizing the opposite parties by trying to ignite emotional feelings among the masses would not work.

Butterfingers

'Catches win matches' is the mantra of modern cricket. A side with excellent set of fieldsmen is an asset in modern times as displayed by the Aussies over the years. The powerhouse of cricket Australia is known to grab anything that is in the air and their swift and agile fielders save plenty of runs which ultimately makes a huge difference in any format of the game. In the ensuing Down under your ever so trusted and dependable skilled set of Indian cricketers missed nearly 20 catches which have cost them dearly. In the 1st test match visitors' butter finger fieldsmen dropped some crucial catches in the first innings of the match. Star batsman Steven Smith was dropped at the score of 38, with the team total at 105. Skipper Tim Paine was too given life when his aerial shot was floored at the team's total score at 111. At that junction the home team was adrift by 133 runs. These chances allowed the home team to crawl close to India's first innings score and finally it made a huge difference. In the T20 series too they missed some easy sitters which resulted in losing the series.

Lastly, in a byte post the humiliating defeat Indian opener KL Rahul stated that transition from in front of empty stadium to playing in front of full gallery was one of the reasons for flooring so many catches. Can that statement be considered from a professional cricketer? Let's hope our team lifts its morale and show some character in the remaining test matches. Praying that fielders latch onto their catches.

Too many portals

The social media is flooded with so many Assamese web portals. Once Facebook is open so many web portals appear and majority of them are substandard. From news anchor to spot reporting it's really annoying. The basic purpose of these portals is to make mountain out of a mole hill. Secondly, almost all the news web portals are sold to one or the other political parties. It, however, is good to notice that such portals are providing bread and butter to many locals. But the thing is that the portal owners should give basic media training to the staff. With improve quality the number of subscribers would increase. Government too should keep a tab on these portals. Licence verification is very important.

Let the viewing be pleasant experience, not any torture.
