'Undolanjeevis' are back

After lying low for a while the professional 'Andolanjeevis' (farmers' body) are back in business once again breaking all the COVID-19 protocols. Knowing the fact that they are losing public sympathy and importance, now they are back with a new essay. Already these inglorious 'Andolanjeevis' have emerged as a super spreader of COVID. Now 12 political parties are lending their unqualified support to the so-called farmers' union to oust the Modi government and create a crisis like situation in the country. They are well aware that by the grace of God corona cases are declining in the country. The 12 parties deserve to be wiped out once and for all so that these termites don't eat up the country from inside.

Akhil's health

Akhil Gogoi has been in hospital since 12 July 2020 juggling several health issues. Few will deny that now what he needs much apart from medical treatment is social support.

In a democracy, every legislator irrespective of a political party must get beyond his or her extreme antagonistic attitude towards each other and work together for the welfare of the people they represent. For this, every legislator needs to create a conducive ambience where solidarity and fellow-feeling may prevail among all the legislators.

Akhil Gogoi also, being a public representative now, does attract due respect from his fellow legislators. Regrettably, the people of the State have seen the opposite scene in recent times.

The glory and dignity of the Assembly will be retained (as reiterated by the honourable CM himself) only when even those who consider Akhil their bete noire help him promote health and well-being through empathy. After all, we must say and admit that he has not done anything so far which is against the Assamese, though he is hardly free from fault.

A fitting tribute

Two years after Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal made supreme sacrifice for the country in Pulwama terrorist strike, his wife Nitika Kaul cleared the SSC examination and recently she passed out from Officers Training Academy (OTA) and joined the Indian Army as Lieutenant. This is indeed a fitting tribute to her martyr husband. She could have easily chosen another profession or cried for government aid but the brave lady chose to wear an olive green uniform to protect our country from enemies. She deserves accolades for her decision. It is true patriotism runs in some people's blood.

Boost to young authors

The launch of the YUVA Scheme for mentoring young authors by the Union Education Ministry is a laudable step. This is an author mentorship programme that aims to bring the perspectives of a new generation of writers to the forefront on topics such as unsung heroes, freedom fighters, unknown and forgotten places and their role in the national movement, and other related topics innovatively and creatively. The programme trains authors to write on a wide range of topics to promote Indian heritage, culture, and knowledge system. The seventy-five authors will be chosen through an all-India competition to be held from June 1 to July 31, 2021, with each receiving a cumulative scholarship of Rs 50,000 per month for six months under the mentorship scheme. The scheme would bolster young minds and set the groundwork for the world's future creative leaders.

Riverbank erosion

Environmental refugees are one of the most burning issues in today's time. Palasbari, South Kamrup being in the course of the Brahmaputra is the greatest sufferer of this issue. Due to this, the economic background of South Kamrup has suffered a lot. After the great earthquake of 1950, the problems of bank erosion of the Brahmaputra has increased day by day. But still, the government has not taken any strict measures towards it. It is also worth mentioning that the government-sanctioned a project worth Rs 21.04 crore to control the bank erosion and flood in the constituency of Palasbari region in 1994, has gone into vain. To date only about Rs 9.35 crore were released by the government for those works. On October 9 last year, the then Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta inspected the ongoing ADB funded work of Rs 33 crore in Guimara of Palashbari constituency and got an idea of ??the progress of the work. Meanwhile, in the Sontali Panakhaiti and Chaygaon Sum Aambari in South Kamrup, the issues of bank erosion have again started from May 23. As a result, the people who used to live in the banks of Brahmaputra are remerging in fear of losing their homelands. Thus the poor people of the Palasbari constituency suffered a lot. Our Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, MLA of Palasbari constituency Hemanga Thakuriya and MLA of Chaygaon constituency Rekibuddin Ahmed are requested to pay attention to the conditions of the poor people of Palasbari and Chaygaon. They should take strict measures to solve the issues of bank erosion through scientific ways. MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed has announced that an amount of Rs 3 crore and 10 lakhs will be used to stop the bank erosion problems.

Effect of COVID-19 in students' life

Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw your attention to the life of students during the COVID-19 crisis. As we all know that online classes are going on for all the students, from primary to university students but no one has mentioned the amount of mobile data that is needed for a particular day of class. We used to hear earlier students committing suicide for not being able to attend the online classes because they can't afford an android phone. But even after the students are being able to afford android mobiles, the amount of data that finishes after attending only 2 hours of the class is exasperated. Moreover, students need to do assignments for which they need at least a normal-speed data connection which also becomes troublesome because they already used it in online classes. It becomes very difficult for the students to cope up with such problems and they become frustrated. This issue should be heard by the education minister too so that he can give a proper solution to it.
