The act of beating up an autistic teenager for no fault by a policeman at Bharalumukh on Thursday that has gone viral on social and mainstream media has provoked outrage across the state. Sadly enough, several reports of high-handedness of a few police personnel hitting the headlines even during the pandemic-induced lockdown have triggered resentment and hatred towards the whole department among the citizens of the state. Undoubtedly, it's not a good sign at all. The people who are entrusted with the noble task of maintaining law and order in the country and hence ensuring a peaceful and secure life of its citizens should never do something deemed to be out of the ambit of the legal framework of the country. Such heinous acts must be condemned vehemently. It's highly imperative that the police deal with those anti-social elements with a heavy hand. It needs mention that there are many police personnel who deserve a smart salute for their magnanimity often shown to the people in distress and wholehearted dedication towards duty. Hope, such brutal acts won't repeat in the future which have negative impact on society as a whole.
