The Pitiable Plight of JIST Girls Hostel

Through the columns of your esteemed daily, we would like to draw the attention of the Government of Assam to the grievances against the JIST (Jorhat) for the poor and pitable plight of its Old Girls Hostel. The Old Girls Hostel is completely unhygenic, damp, dirty and unfit for human living. For this academic session, they have given admission to Old Girls Hostel in anticipation of completion of the New Girls Hostel under construction since last two years. The hostel was supposed to be ready by 31 July 2016; but now they say that it will be ready in one months time . But the reality is that the New Girls Hostel won't be ready even in six months time. The contractor is executing the works at sil's pace and the JIST administration is a helpless spectator. Therefore, they are accommodating the girls in the Old Girls Hostel. The rooms are very small in size which can accommodate only one girl; but they are asking the newly admitted girls to stay in a three girls' room, sharing the beds.

So, this plight of the girl students of JIST, studying Degree and Technology subjects, forced to stay in an unhygenic, unfit and idequete accommodation, is defeating the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhijan' of Prime Minister rendra Modi.

We therefore request the State Education Minister and the Jorhat MLAto make an investigation into the matter why the State government owned Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology's Girls Hostel is in such a pitable condition violating the students' minimum rights. The Assam Government should revamp, augment and improve JIST Jorhat at war footing so that all the student inmates of both Girls and Boys Hostels and the classrooms are equipped with all modern infrastructure and comfort required for an excellent academic environment. We are awaiting for justice to be done to the girl students of JIST at the earliest.

Disgraceful Azam Khan

The state of Uttar Pradesh has always played a pivotal role in the formation of government at the Centre as it has the largest number of parliamentary constituencies amongst all states. So, being the kingmaker state in any parliamentary election, the electorate of Uttar Pradesh has huge responsibility in electing good representatives. But sadly, some of the elected representatives from the Hindi heartland state of Uttar Pradesh are becoming a disgrace to the tion. One of the glaring examples is Samajwadi Party MLA and UP minister Azam Khan, who had earlier supported a dreaded terrorist like Afzal Guru. He, in the guise of ‘secularism’, blatantly supported the acts of Afzal Guru and even challenged the hanging of the anti-tiol, while now he is objecting Army action against those betrayers (read separatists) who are raising anti-Indian slogans and creating all the ruckus in Jammu and Kashmir. The latest developments in Uttar Pradesh should be a clarion call for all right thinking citizens to think and act decisively once and for all. Being an Indian, I hang my head in shame to have a lawmaker like Azam Khan who can be best termed as a law-breaker.
