The State government's decision to ease out interstate lockdown initially to bring back its own stranded people seemed to be a welcome move and a boon. It has brought much relief to the families concerned. As time has passed, a section of the quarantined people seems to be hell bent on spreading the virus with scant regard for the laidown guidelines. Initiatives have been taken by the State government to accommodate them knowing fully well that citizens might be at risk. However, the hardwork and dedication put forward by nurses, doctors and police personnel have not impacted some of the returnees at all. Recent reports of vandalism in the quarantine centres present a bleak future ahead. It is a new trend, and perhaps it points to a rise in emotional health issues. Psychiatric counselling may be mooted in the quarantine centres to look after mental health issues.
Also, the restrictions regarding bringing back those stranded may, perhaps, be put on hold on an urgent basis to prevent the spread of this highly infectious disease and save the society from the threat of community transmission which is looming large.
