The Kerala Story Controversy: Mumbai Police Provides Security After Crew Received Threats

MUMBAI: For quite some time, the controversial film 'The Kerala Story,' which relates the account of how Kerala women were forced to convert to Islam and ultimately joined ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), has been making news.

According to Mumbai Police, the film's director, Sudipto Sen, alerted authorities that a staff member had received threats from an unknown number. The menacing message includes a warning to the crew member not to leave the residence and that they should not have shown such a story.

Following that, Mumbai police provided security, despite the fact that the police have yet to receive a written complaint from a crew member.

While Madhya Pradesh proclaimed 'The Kerala Story' tax-free, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee banned the film in the state "to avoid any violence or hatred in West Bengal."

“West Bengal govt has decided to ban the movie 'The Kerala Story'. This is to avoid any incident of hatred and violence, and to maintain peace in the state” said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

She also said that “What is "The Kashmir Files"? it is to humiliate one section. What is "The Kerala Story? It is a distorted story”

Vipul Amrutlal Shah, the film's producer, responds to CM Banerjee, saying, "If the state government does not listen to us, we will explore legal avenues." However, whatever path we follow will be guided by legal counsel."

The film, directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, drew harsh criticism from Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who termed it "RSS propaganda."

The key actors in 'The Kerala Story' are Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani.

The film sparked outrage as its trailer stated that 32,000 women from Kerala had gone missing and joined the terrorist group ISIS. However, in response to public outrage, the controversial figure in the caravan was later removed.
