Review: Deva Katta's film 'Republic' is a political drama that explains how the authority works in a country and highlights the system being politically corrupted. It brings into focus about the importance of division of power by protecting a nation from authoritarian government. The film indicates the threat that a nation may face when the control over power and supremacy is in the hands of few. The whole drama is set in a place called Eluru, Andhra Pradesh which is the head quarter of West Godavari district. The place is chosen on the basis of the requirement of the freshwater lake known as Thelleru which is exploited from long time, contaminated fish being threat to human lives. Water Lake has been an essential part of the film as the story is based upon the lives of fishermen living at that district whose survival is completely dependent on bounties that they gets by capturing the fishes from the water lake Thelleru. Through this concept the films tries to portray the struggles and hard works experienced by those fishermen in their livelihood. But then they encounters a change and disturbance in their daily work as some of the corporate business companies came across the lake and put an evil eye on it. The companies along with some of the corrupt political leaders desired to own the entire lake by cheating the local fishermen.

Before getting into the main conflict in the film, the director kept the audience connected in watching the drama through various incidents and division of plots as it takes long time to reach the main conflict. Sai Dharam Tej who plays the role of Abhiram is an IAF officer in the story who is much dedicated to his job and always stands up against the corrupted system and government. Tej gives his best by getting in an intense and powerful performance as a revolutionary public servant. He tries to reawaken and encourage the citizens to bring revolution through social and political changes. Therefore the local people and fishermen of Eluru find some hope and grow expectations from Abhiram who is an IAF officer.

The film 'Republic' has been represented as an exemplary tale by the director Deva Katta as it focuses on citizens being aware of their values and importance in taking action by bringing social and political changes in the society. It explains that the public needs to pay attention through their constant lookout to protect the nation and express criticism. The film even brings into limelight about the duties and responsibilities of the judiciary and executive in maintaining the legislative stepping after from the limits and boundaries. It shows that many civil servants and government officials believed that nothing could be changed as the system is extremely terrible with corruption. Ramya Krishnan as Visakha Vani in the film makes a great impact with her performance as she is one who has the authority under her thumb and confronted Abhiram by getting into a conflict. Jagapathi Babu who is often seen in a villain character with negative role appears in the film 'Republic' with a positive character. Aishwariya Rajesh has been as usual trustworthy for any role as she makes justice to any character. The songs and the stunts performed in the movie are minimal and the director gets sufficient rooms to exhibit the acting take over's. The film 'Republic' as a political framework is an inspirational film and a must watch movie at the current scenario as it also shows a farmer protesting peacefully by referring Mahatma Gandhi's Non-violent movement.
