MUMBAI: Actor turned politician Jaya Bachchan hailed and highlighted India's double win at the 95th Academy Awards in Rajya Sabha.
The renowned actor remarked on Tuesday that it is a proud occasion for the nation and that it is time to put an end to any north-versus-south discussions during her statement in the parliament.
Bachchan said this is not the time to see which region or language has won but to celebrate the diversity of India and look at these films as "Indian first."
"The fact that we are talking about this nation's most significant ambassadors makes me really thrilled and grateful. And they are the film folks. They are Indians regardless of where they are from: north, east, south, or west."
"I stand here with pride and with dignity for our film fraternity, who have represented this country a number of times and have won a number of prizes starting from Satyajit Ray onwards," she remarked.
The well-known actor continued by expressing gratitude to everyone involved in these movies for bringing India's enormous talent to the attention of foreign organizations, the media, and the general public.
"Aaj humari janta ko recognize kar rahe hai, main kehna chahti hoon ki yeh shuruyat hai, aur main Bharat ki janta ko dhanyawad dena chahti hoon jinke khatir videsh ke log Indian films ko jaan paaye. (This is just the beginning, and I would like to congratulate the Indian population, because of whom people in the West are recognizing the great work by Indian filmmakers). Finally, the movie market is here, not in America," she said.
Jaya Bachchan further claimed that she is acquainted with RRR's director SS Rajamouli, screenwriter KV Vijayendra Prasad, and other individuals who helped India win the Oscars.
During her statement in the parliament, the actor earned applause from her fellow lawmakers and a favourable reaction on social media.
