Guwahati: National Award-winning filmmaker Jahnu Barua on Thursday
(December 3) announced that he will direct a Hindi film on the legendary Ahom
general Lachit Borphukan.
The work
on the project is already underway and the feature film is expected to be
released by the end of 2022.
The
film will likely be produced by Guwahati-based Dream House Productionz and
various production houses of the nation may also be a part of the film.
However,
Barua did not reveal who would play the lead character's role of the Ahom
general but he said, the leading role will be played by the number one actor in
the country.
Barua
said he was living with this dream of making a movie on the legendary hero
Lachit Borphukan as he is Barua's favourite war hero.
"For over 20 years, I have
been living with this dream of doing a film on my favourite war hero Lachit
Borphukan. There were several government initiatives to this effect, including
a proposal by two former governors, but such a mega project could not be
pursued due to budgetary constraint," he said.
Barua
further stated that research on the project has begun under the guidance of the
former head of the Department of History at Gauhati University, Professor JN
Phukan, to depict with accuracy of the events leading to the Battle of Saraighat, which catapulted the Ahom general to the status of a legend.
It
would be after more than seven decades of Independence that the pride and the
hero of Assam's war would get his due limelight, with that Barua hoped that the
government will support their initiative in all possible ways to make the mega
project a reality.
The
12-time national award winner, Director Jahnu Barua is known for his best work
