Kolkata: Veteran
Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee passed away at the age of 58 in Kolkata on
Sunday, since he was suffering from Covid-19 in Kolkata on Sunday.
The actor was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
of Kolkata's Belle Vue Hospital on October 6 after he tested positive for
COVID-19.
His health condition deteriorated extremely over the
past 2 days. The medical team who were treating him tried very hard to bring
him back from the critical stage but they failed so far. Arindam Kar, critical
care expert and head of the medical board of Kolkata's Belle Vue Hospital,
said.
The legendary actor had worked in acclaimed films like
Ghare Baire, Charulata, Shakha Proshakha, Ashani Sanket, Aranyer Din Ratri,
Jhinder Bandi, and Saat Pake Bandha, among others.
He was born in January in Mirjapur Street near Sealdah
Railway Station at Calcutta, West Bengal on 19, 1935.
Chatterjee who
was also famed for his poetry received many awards such as Padma Bhushan,
Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
He began his film acting career with Satyajit Ray's
