Mumbai: Raam Laxman, the veteran music director and composer died on Saturday due to cardiac arrest at his residence in Nagpur at the age of 79.
His son Amar Patil confirmed the news of his father's death and said that he had taken second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, six days ago. There was no problem at that time but when he came home, he developed weakness. "His parameters were dropping. Doctors were attending at home. He passed away at around 2 am on Saturday. He had a cardiac arrest," he added.
Veteran Indian playback singer Lata Mangeshkar paid tribute to him on social media. She had worked with Laxman on many of her popular songs like 'Maye Ni Maye' and 'Didi Tera Dewar Deewana' from the movie 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun' among others.
Sharing his photo on Twitter, Mangeshkar tweeted, "Mujhe abhi pata chala ki bahut guni aur lokpriya sangeetkar Ram Laxman ji (Vijay Patil) ji ka swargwas hua. Ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua. Wo bahut acche insaan the.Maine unke kai gaane gaaye jo bahut lokpriya hue. Main unko vinamra shraddhanjali arpan karti hun (sic)."
The English translation of the tweet is "I just learned that the extremely talented and popular music composer Raam Laxman ji (Vijay Patil) has passed away. I am very sorry to hear this. He was a very good man. I sang many of his songs which got very popular. I pay him my respects."
Known for his work in films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Maine Pyaar Kiya, Laxman's real name was Vijay Patil and he was known for composing music for Marathi, Hindi, and Bhojpuri films.
He had a four-decade-long career in the music industry. He has composed music for over 150 films during his glorious career. He has composed music for the songs of movies like Taraana, Patthar Ke Phool, Anmol, and Hum Saath Saath Hain.
His biggest hit came in collaboration with Rajshri Productions. The music director was introduced to the film business by Dada Kondke, for whom he composed Marathi songs at the beginning of his career. Later, he worked on Kondke's Hindi film songs as well.
