NEW DELHI: In a somber turn of events, RS Shivaji, a veteran Tamil actor celebrated for his impeccable comedy roles, breathed his last at the age of 66 in Chennai. The news of his demise sent ripples across the Indian film industry, leaving fans and fellow actors mourning the loss of a beloved talent.

Born in 1956 in Chennai, RS Shivaji's journey in Tamil cinema was nothing short of remarkable. With a career spanning over four decades, he etched his name in the annals of Indian cinema history through unforgettable performances in a variety of roles.

One of his notable recent appearances was in the 2020 Suriya-starrer 'Soorarai Pottru,' a critically acclaimed film that garnered widespread attention. His ability to seamlessly transition between comic and character-driven roles showcased his versatility as an actor.

Shivaji's association with iconic actor Kamal Haasan and his production house Raaj Kamal Films International was a defining chapter in his career. His comedy acted as a perfect foil to Haasan's versatile performances in films during the 1980s and 1990s.

One of his most iconic moments came in the movie 'Apoorva Sagodharargal' (1989), known as 'Appu Raja' in Hindi, where his catchphrase "Saar! Neenga Engeyo Poiteenga, sir" became legendary. This dialogue, directed at fellow actor Janagaraj, found its way into pop culture, with numerous parodies in later Tamil films.

Shivaji's contribution extended beyond acting. He ventured into assistant direction, sound design, and line production for several Tamil films, demonstrating his multifaceted talent in the industry.

Throughout his illustrious career, Shivaji delivered memorable performances in films like 'Kolamavu Kokila' and 'Dharala Prabhu,' where he portrayed pivotal roles, including Nayanthara's father and Vivek's assistant, respectively.

A true artist, Shivaji's work was not confined to the screen. He was a part of a film family, with his brother Santhana Bharathi being a well-known actor and director in the industry.

As news of his passing spread, condolences poured in from all corners of the film world. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala expressed his sorrow on social media, highlighting Shivaji's memorable roles and his recent appearance in the film 'Luckyman.'

While the cause of his death remains undisclosed, RS Shivaji's legacy lives on through his extensive body of work and the laughter he brought to countless fans through his comedy. His contribution to Tamil cinema will be remembered for generations to come, making him an enduring icon in the world of Indian entertainment.
