Indian-origin Srikant Datar has been recently named as the Dean of Harvard Business School (HBS), Boston, Massachusetts. He is the second consecutive Indian-origin dean, succeeding Nitin Nohria.
Datar is a proud alumnus of the University of Bombay, and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He will be assuming the charge as the dean from January, 2021, said Lawrence Bacow, the president of Harvard University.
Datar is the Arthur Lowes Dickinson Professor of Business Administration, and the senior associate dean for University Affairs at the prestigious 112-year-old institution.
Bacow said while describing the eminent academician, Datar that he is an "innovative educator, a distinguished scholar, and a deeply experienced academic leader."
He said, "Harvard Business School is an institution with a remarkable legacy of impact in research, education, and practice. Yet the events of the past year have hastened our passage to an unforeseen future."
The previous dean of HBS, Nitin Nohria says that Datar is an outstanding choice for the position of dean at HBS. Datar has presented his research to audiences in South America, Asia, North America, Africa, and Europe. Since the joining of HBS as a faculty in 1996, Datar has played a series of important job positions.
Datar has played an important role in dealing with the challenges posed by the pandemic. All his nearly 25 years at HBS, he has served with distinction in various leadership positions. Datar is honored and humbled to take this new position. He will become the 11th dean of the Harvard Business School.
