Chinese Govt Imposes Lockdown In Changchun Amid New COVID-19 Outbreak

NEW DELHI: At the time when the COVID-19 situation is turning to normal in many countries across the globe, the country from where the virus originated is again witnessing a spread of the infection.

On Friday 11 March, the government of China has imposed a lockdown in its major city Changchun to prevent the further spread of the deadly virus.

Changchun, the capital city of Northeast China's Jilin province has seen a great increase in the tally of covid positive cases since its new outbreak a few days ago.

The country shut down Changchun by imposing a lockdown on nine million populations residing in the northeastern industrial center.

The government took the sudden and the major decision to lock down the industrial centre with 9 million people in its concern over the rapidly increasing cases of covid-19 in the area.

The fresh spike of the virus became a significant matter of concern for authorities therefore the people in Changchun are directed to stay at home.

According to the lockdown norms, only one person in the family can go out of the house every 2 days in case there is something important to buy that might include food.

The Chinese government has further directed the local people to undergo 3 rounds of mass testing in order to ensure that all are tested for covid related symptoms.

Transport services are all cancelled and all business establishments are ordered to remain close following the lockdown imposed.

Earlier the country's government also imposed lockdown in a city of 5 lakh people, Yucheng located in the eastern province of Shandong. A partial lockdown was imposed in Jilin City with 93 covid positive cases.

It may be mentioned that as per the data on Friday 11 March, China has reported a total of 397 covid positive cases among which 98 cases are reported from the Jilin province surrounding Changchun.

Notably, the Agricultural Science and Tech University in Jilin has reported 74 covid confirmed cases after the virus widely spread into the campus.

The new outbreak first emerged in the country by the end of the previous week and as of now, the tally of cases exceeds 1,100.
