A South African lady who claimed to have broken a world record by giving birth to as many as ten babies has been committed to a mental institution for fabricating the story. According to 'The Sun,' Gosiame Thamara Sithole, 37, was detained in the early hours of June 17 at a relative's residence near Johannesburg.

She was subsequently given over to social workers, who admitted her to Tembisa Hospital's psychiatric ward for an evaluation of her mental health. Sithole was transported to the station after her relatives and partner reported her missing, according to the police.

She reportedly accused her children's father of attempting to make a millionaire out of the story by accepting public donations intended for the babies.

The 37-year-old mother from Gauteng said she gave birth to decuplets, seven boys and three girls, who were conceived naturally, through C-section on June 7 at a hospital in Pretoria. She stated the decuples surprised her because she was anticipating just eight children.

Soon after, there were suspicions and concerns about her account because there was no confirmation of the presence of the ten infants. South Africa's Department of National Health likewise claimed that its own research found no proof of children's presence. However, a local media site maintained that the deliveries did occur and that there was a cover-up to conceal medical incompetence.

Meanwhile, her lawyer, Refiloe Mokoena, claims she is being detained against her will and plans to seek a court order to ensure her release.

'She declined that she should be taken to Tembisa Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation because she felt strongly that she is of sound mind. When I left Tembisa Hospital, she made it clear that seeing that she is now being held against her will, I should please move an urgent court order for her to be released,'' the lawyer told the media, as reported by Daily Mail.
