Gandhiji Deeply Admired in France, Says Embassy in India; Pays Tribute

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the French Embassy in India paid heartfelt tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, underscoring its unwavering commitment to the principles of non-violence, peace, and tolerance espoused by him.

Taking to X, the French Embassy in India conveyed, "On #GandhiJayanti, Ambassador-designate Thierry Mathou and everyone at the Embassy pay tribute to the Mahatma and the values of peace, tolerance, and non-violence that he staunchly upheld. Gandhiji is deeply admired in France, as reflected in statues in Strasbourg and Vauréal."

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Delhi's Rajghat.

In a post on X, PM Modi highlighted the global influence of Mahatma Gandhi and urged people to work towards realizing his aspirations. He shared, "I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. Mahatma Gandhi's impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion. May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster to be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over."

On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, President Droupadi Murmu extended her greetings to citizens and appealed to individuals to incorporate Gandhi's values and teachings into their thoughts, speech, and actions while dedicating themselves to the welfare of the country.

Mahatma Gandhi, born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat, pioneered non-violent resistance and played a pivotal role in the freedom struggle against colonial British rule. His steadfast commitment to 'Swaraj' (self-governance) and 'Ahimsa' (non-violence) earned him worldwide acclaim. Gandhi's birth anniversary is celebrated as the International Day of Non-Violence on a global scale.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched a cleanliness drive commencing on October 1 to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. He emphasized that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, and every effort contributes to the cause. The 'Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath' Campaign, part of the 'Swachhata Pakhwada- Swachhata Hi Seva' 2023 campaign, aims to promote cleanliness and fulfill Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean India.
