NEW DELHI: 20-years after the military operation troops of the United States forces left vulnerable Afghanistan as the last US military planes flew out of the vulnerable country. According to reports, on Tuesday five American C-17cargo flight took off from the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul.
Sharing a picture of Maj. Gen. Chris Donahue, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division in Twitter, the department of defense has informed that Maj. Gen. Chris Donahue is boarding in C-17 to depart Kabul and was the last soldier to step off Afghan soil.
Following the 9/11 terror attack in the US by al Qaeda terrorist when George Bush was the president, the war started in Afghanistan.
Over $2 trillion was the cost of the war and in which more than 1, 70,000 persons died and ultimately failed to defeat the Taliban, the terror group who allowed Al Qaeda to operate there.
More than 122,000 persons including 5, 4000 Americans were evacuated and airlifted from Afghanistan since July as on Monday.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a tweet said, "U.S. military flights have ended and our troops have departed Afghanistan. A new chapter of America's engagement with Afghanistan has begun. It's one in which we will lead with our diplomacy.
He also wrote, "The United States will continue to support humanitarian aid to the Afghan people. It will not flow through the government, but rather through independent organizations, like @UN agencies & NGOs. We expect that those efforts will not be impeded by the Taliban or anyone".
Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesman marked the day as "full independence" of Afghanistan as the last American soldiers left Afghanistan.
The Taliban terrorists celebrated the "full independence" of Afghanistan with gunfire broke out across the city.
"I want to thank our commanders and the men and women serving under them for their execution of the dangerous retrograde from Afghanistan as scheduled – in the early morning hours of August 31, Kabul time – with no further loss of American lives. The past 17 days have seen our troops execute the largest airlift in US history, evacuating over 120,000 US citizens, citizens of our allies, and Afghan allies of the United States. They have done it with unmatched courage, professionalism, and resolve. Now, our 20-year military presence in Afghanistan has ended", President Joe Biden wrote in the statement released on Monday night.
