NEPAL: On Friday night, a severe mishap occurred when a Namaste Transport-run passenger bus careened off the Bhalubang bridge and crashed into Nepal's Rapti River in Dang district. This tragedy took place at approximately 10:00 PM on the East-West Highway.

The bus, traveling from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu, was being operated by Lal Bahadur Nepali who is 28 years old. Unfortunately, the accident resulted in twelve fatalities including two Indian citizens named Yogendra Ram (67) from Malahi Bihar and Mune (31) hailing from Uttar Pradesh.

The Area Police Office's Chief Inspector, Ujjwal Bahadur Singh, sadly confirmed the dreadful incident. He reported that while on its way to Kathmandu, the bus tragically went off course and plummeted into Rapti River from a bridge resulting in fatalities. The police have been able to identify eight of those perished passengers which includes two Indian nationals. Furthermore, 22 individuals were wounded during this occurrence.

The remains of those who passed away have been conveyed to Lamahi Hospital for postmortem evaluations. The officials are rendering assistance to the impacted families while probing into the occurrence's conditions.

The East-West Highway has witnessed a string of unfortunate events, and this latest tragic incident only adds to the distress. It underscores the need for better safety measures and strict compliance with traffic regulations. The bereaved community is grappling with questions about what led to such accidents and what can be done to prevent them in future on this road that connects regions from east coast-to-coast through our country.

To thoroughly investigate the bus mishap, a detailed analysis of driver records, road conditions and vehicle inspection will be undertaken. However, as for now, emphasis is being placed on extending support to those injured and offering comfort to bereaved families struck by this devastating incident and created a havoc in the Dang District area of Nepal.
