NEW DELHI: An India-based international air carrier had to land one of its flights in neighbouring Pakistan as an emergency took place onboard the flight after it took off from the Indian capital. The flight was on its way to Qatar when this incident took place.
The IndiGo Flight numbered 6E-1736 which took off from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport was headed for the Hamad International Airport in Doha when this incident took place. A medical emergency onboard the IndiGo plane forced the captain to make an emergency landing at the Jinnah Terminal International Airport in the capital of Pakistan on Monday.
"Doha bound IndiGo flight diverted to Pakistan's Karachi due to a medical emergency onboard," mentioned an official with the airline about the incident.
The exact details of the medical emergency were not revealed but the passenger was declared dead by the medical team at the Karachi Airport.
The authorities with the IndiGo airline released a statement regarding the matter. "IndiGo flight 6E-1736, operating from Delhi to Doha was diverted to Karachi due to a medical emergency on board. Unfortunately, on arrival, the passenger was declared dead by the airport medical team. We are deeply saddened by the news and our prayers and wishes are with his family and loved ones. We're currently making arrangements for transferring the other passengers of the flight, in coordination with the relevant authorities," mentioned the official statement from the airline.
According to reports, the deceased passenger was identified as a citizen of Nigeria travelling from India to Qatar.
In a previous incident, a Vistara flight from Delhi made an emergency landing at Kolkata airport pertaining to medical reasons after a cabin crew fell ill on board and required immediate medical treatment. The Vistara aircraft UK 741 had taken off from Delhi carrying 149 passengers along with 6 crew members. One of the crew members started witnessing multiple occurrences of vomiting and was given medical attention once the flight landed.
