Pak Hindu refugee denied permission to appear for exams; appeals for Right to Education

New Delhi: Dami Kohli, a Hindu refugee from Pakistan, who fled the country after facing religious persecution in Pakistan, was informed by her school that she will not be allowed to appear for her exams.

"I took admission in the school in 2018. I studied there for the whole year and passed the 11th standard. I have my mark-sheet also. Only one month is left for board exams and the school has given me a notice stating that I will not be allowed to appear for the examination," she informed reporters.

"I have given all the proofs. I should also get the right to education," she said.

The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has asked her to provide an eligibility certificate to appear for her 12th exams next year.

State Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasara assured her and her family that the government will ensure that she can appear for her exams and if the required rules will be changed.

Dami, came to India from Sindh in Pakistan a few years ago fleeing religious persecution, completed her 10th from Pakistan and took admission in a school in 2018.

She has been living in an Aanganwa refugee camp, around Jodhpur.

The Congress government in 2011 had issued a circular that made provisions in favour of such students due to their special circumstances.
