NEW DELHI: The Indian Prime Minister congratulated Rishi Sunak on being appointed as the new Prime Minister of Britain. Narendra Modi said that he was looking forward to working closely together on global issues.
"Warmest congratulations Rishi Sunak. As you become UK PM, I look forward to working closely together on global issues and implementing Roadmap 2030. Special Diwali wishes to the 'living bridge' of UK Indians, as we transform our historic ties into a modern partnership," mentioned the PM.
The election of Indian-origin Rishi Sunak as the United Kingdom's Prime Minister is 'pretty astounding' and a 'ground-breaking milestone', United States President Joe Biden said in his congratulatory message. "It's a choice. And we make that choice every day. It's true in our lives and in the life of this nation, especially in the life of a democracy, whether here in America or for the families back in India marking 75 years of independence," he mentioned.
Rishi Sunak is the first Britain PM of colour, and the country's third prime minister this year. He will take over as prime minister from Liz Truss who quit last week after just 45 days in office. She left behind a staggering economy and a shell-shocked and divided party with her resignation.
In his first public statement after he became the Conservative leader, Rishi Sunak said the country faces a profound economic challenge. He also promised to work towards attaining stability and unity in the country. He mentioned that he would make it his utmost priority to unite not only the party but also the whole country. Rishi Sunak was a strong contender as the governing Conservatives sought stability amidst the war situation in the continent. And after months of economic and social chaos that caused the past two leaders to resign.
