Hanoi: Vietnam's media has reported that police recently confiscated an estimated 3.4 lakh "used condoms" which had been washed and resold as new.

Dozens of large bags containing the used contraceptives were found in a warehouse in the southern province of Binh Duong, state-owned Vietnam Television (VTV) reported.

According to VTV reports, the bags weighed over 360 kilograms (794 lbs), which is equivalent to 345,000 condoms.

State-run newspaper Tuoi Tre reported that the owner of the warehouse said they had received a "monthly input of used condoms from an unknown person.

According to police, the used condoms were first boiled in water then dried and reshaped on a wooden phallus before being repackaged and resold as new.

VTV said it was not clear how many of the recycled condoms had already been sold.

A woman who was detained said she had received $0.17 for every kilogram of recycled condoms she produced.
