Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi International Airport has been attacked on 17 January and according to multiple reports, this attack has been carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) or drones.
The Houthis have claimed responsibility for this attack which has killed at least 3 people and have wounded 6 others.
The Abu Dhabi police, in a statement, said that three fuel tankers had exploded in the industrial Musaffah area near storage facilities of oil firm ADNOC and added that a fire had broken out at a construction site at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Furthermore, the police have confirmed that drones were used to carry out this attack. The police have also informed that preliminary investigations indicated the detection of small flying objects, possibly belonging to drones, that fell in the two areas and may have caused the explosion and fire.
Yahia Sarei, the Houthi military spokesman, said that the group launched an attack deep into the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He refrained from providing any further information, saying a statement would be released soon.
This is not the first time that the Houthi's have carried out an attack of this nature. They have repeatedly targeted their neighbours and longtime foe Saudi Arabia. Riyadh has witnessed several drone and rocket attacks at their Oil facilities emanating from southern neighbours Yemen.
The Saudi's, along with their allies, have waged a devastating war in Yemen since 2015 which has had a catastrophic impact on the country. Millions of innocent civilians have been killed and the infrastructure have been bought down to rubles.
The Emiratis are an integral member of the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthis, who have been backed by Iran.
The country has erupted into chaos after the Houthis, a shia group, overran the capital city of Sanaa thereby ousting the internationally-backed government.
