MANILA: The tropical storm Nalgae is causing tremendous damage across the country of Philippines. Thousands have been dislocated and huge damages to life and property has been reported.

The National Disaster Agency of Philippines has reported the death of 98 people till the morning of Monday. The search and rescue operations are still in force to find survivors in the worst affected regions of the country.

Majority of the deaths have been reported from the island of Mindanao located in the south side of the country. Torrential rains caused a series of flash floods and landslides which completely destroyed the villages of the region. This region usually remains comparatively safe from the typhoons that hit the country.

According to a report, the number of deaths are expected to rise in the coming days as a good number of people are still missing and a huge number are injured.

The Kusiong village in the Maguindanao del Norte province of Mindanao was one of the worst affected. The whole village was buried in a massive landslide triggered by the nonstop rains.

Survivors and rescuers toiled hard to check for survivors as well as to recover things from their damaged homes.

Meanwhile, as the supply chains jammed because of damaged roads and establishments, people head for shortages of food and other essential resources. Organizations are providing relief materials including food, drinking water and medicines to affected people.

The president of the country Ferdinand Marcos toured some of the worst hit reasons on Monday. He mentioned that the evacuation measures did help to save some lives, but the damages to life and property still remain very high.

Global warming is said to be one of the main reasons for the increase in the severity of these tropical storms. Even before the rescue missions are complete, warnings regarding a new disturbance have been issued. This storm could cause more rains across the country from the coming Wednesday.

Indiscriminate deforestation on the mountainside has been reported as the main reason for landslides and flash floods.
