Bangkok: The US Navy and maritime forces of members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Monday kicked off their first joint exercises in Southeast Asia, which are set to pass through the disputed waters of the South China Sea. Eight warships, three MH60 helicopters and a P-8 Poseidon aircraft and more than 1,000 soldiers from the US and the 10 (ASEAN) countries were participating in the exercises, which began at the Thai naval base of Sattahip.
