Xi Jinping Interacts With Chinese Soldiers Posted on Indo-China Border

BEIJING: The president of China, Xi Jinping connected with the soldiers of the People's Liberation Army posted at the international border between India and China virtually on Wednesday.

As reported by the state-controlled media agency of the country on January 19, the president interacted with the soldiers on January 18 from the headquarters of the People's Liberation Army in the capital of the country. According to the report he addressed the troops posted at a border defence station under the Xinjiang Military Command.

It is important to note that this is the only PLA command that the president was shown speaking to and telling them to inspect their combat readiness. This unit has the soldiers looking after the border regions along Eastern Ladakh in the Western Sector of the international border. This region has been seeing tensions in the last few years after multiple attempts of transgression by the PLA.

He also addressed a unit of the navy as well as a unit of the air force and ordered them to remain alert and ready for combat. Asking about the changing conditions in the region over the years enquired if they had been able to "receive fresh vegetables" amongst other supplies in the treacherous terrain.

He also asked the soldiers about their border patrols and management and "hailed the soldiers as models of border defence and encouraged them to persist in their efforts and make new contributions."

Formal disengagement of the forces on both sides has not been completed yet in the Western Sector yet and both countries have thousands of soldiers deployed at the forward regions in this area.

It is not common for the Chinese president to interact directly with the soldiers posted at the borders, and even more so to show it over their state-controlled media organisations.
