Nature is one of the cardinal settings where culture grows and evolves. Indian philosophy speaks of nature as a female entity. In the pages of scriptures, nature is defined as a vital energy which governs the universe. Shakti is always in a blissful consciousness; and this ultimate energy called AdiParashakti splits up into her three prime forms called the Trishakti. The Sanskrit word Trishakti means three energies. The entire universe is running through the combination of three powers knowledge, action and desire.
According to the tenets of Tantra, the energy element took the form of three different energies called the Bindutraya, it's as follows: Bindu, Nadas and Bijas. These Bindutraya is shaped in a feminine figure called Raudri, Jyestha and Vama. Gyana, Ichha and KriyaShakti are associated with Raudri, Jyestha and Vama respectively.
These flows of energies are called as Heat, Light and Sound. Shakta Tantra describes these Goddesses as Mahasaraswati – essentially Sristikarma(Nada or Sound energy), Mahalaxmi with Sthitikarma(Bija or light energy) and lastly Mahakali with Samharakarma(Bindu or heat energy). To understand Tridevi is to get an idea of force, but when one goes beyond the material forms (Sthularupa) he/she will know that she is beyond all limits. We hold the Trishakti in our mind that is constantly functioning as conscious, sub-consious and unconscious.Every aspect or dimension can be connected with the Trishakti, likewise mind, matter and spirit are the fundamental substances of them. Again in a general sense the consorts of Trinity are tied up with life (Pranashakti), mind (manshikshakti) and matter (Bhutashakti). Ichha, Kriya and Gyana the shaktis of Isvara are again the Three Bindus which are Sun, Moon and Fire.
These three Shaktis are always overlapping with one another. Gyaanashakti brings Icchashakti in us which turn out to Kriyashakti. In the same way when one has Gyaanashakti; Icchashakti and Kriyashakti follows him/her. Swapna(dreaming stage) Nidra(deep sleeping stage) and Jaagriti(waking stage)are the three Stage of Trishakti known to be Awasthas. Moreover Trishakti consists of the Trigunas known as Satwik(Gyanashakti), Rajasik(Icchashakti) and Tamasik(Kriyashakti). We even get a trace of these supreme Goddesses in the human body. Even Ayurveda speaks of Triguna and it is necessity in the human anatomy. Trigunas hold the body in material bondage. Maya is the root cause of all karma. This Triguna Maya (Vama,Jyestha and Raudri) has resided in the whole world. With the noose of Triguna Maya, Trio deties entangled the long cycle of Sristi, Sthiti and Samharakarma.
As per Shakta texts, Shakti is the ultimate source of the creation. In the beginning, AdiParaShakti created three main forms of herself namely Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati. These three forms represent Tamasguna, Rajasguna and Sattvaguna respectively. These three Goddesses then took on dual forms of male and female, bringing into creation the Trideva and Tridevi. From Mahakali arose Mahesh/Shiva and Saraswati. From Mahalakshmi, Brahmaa and Lakshmi took form. Vishnu and Gauri/Chandi came from Mahasaraswati. After this, Brahmaa and Saraswati were together entrusted the creation of the Brahmanda, Vishnu and Lakshmi were together entrusted the preservation of the creation, while Mahesh and Gauri were together entrusted with the destruction of the entire creation.
It's the Prakriti that manifests into a matter called Triguna. From the word Prakriti evolves the Gunaatraya, from 'Pra' emerged Satwaguna, 'Kr' gave rise to Rajoguna and finally from 'Ti' came Tamoguna. Trigunas combines in different composition to develop the five elements of the body, which also known as Pancha Maha-Bhoota. Every element around us contains the characteristics of Trigunas. Now let us understand the colour of these Gunas. Satvaguna the state between inertia and activities is said to be white in colour. Rajasguna is symbolized with the red colour and lastly Tamasguna is associated with dark colours. Characteristics of the Trio Deities are compounded with these Gunas. Likewise Satva is the balanced stage, Rajas is the passionate stage of nature and Tamas is the dull stage.
Dynamism of Prakriti is due to the continuous flux of Trigunas. Domination of Gunas influence ones personality. It's the energy in the three forms that turn out into a feminine incarnation to run the universe in a smooth way.
