2 lakh Ola, Uber drivers across NCR threaten strike from Sep 1; find out why

Guwahati: Ola and Uber drivers have threatened to go on strike in the Delhi-NCR region from September 1 in support of their various demands like fare hike and extension of the moratorium on repayment of loans.

This proposed strike might affect travel for thousands of Delhites as the Delhi metro service are yet to resume and the government buses accommodating fewer passengers due to the threat of the coronavirus.

Kamaljeet Singh Gill, president of Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi said that around 2 lakh drivers working with cab aggregators will take part in the strike if the government fails to solve their issues.

The cab drivers have demanded an extension of the moratorium on loan payments till December 31. Additionally, they have urged the authorities to give their nod to fare hike, increase in commission by cab aggregators, and withdrawal of e-challans issued against their vehicles for speeding. This has been made known in a pamphlet that is being circulated by the drivers.

Furthermore, the drivers have also demanded that cab aggregators raise their fare and commission and share taxes paid by them while travelling between Delhi and National Capital destinations like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurgaon.

Gill further said the road tax payment relaxation should also be extended till December 31 due to the ongoing pandemic crisis that has seen the sector take a massive hit amid lockdowns called to halt the spread of the virus.
