SRINAGAR : In an unfortunate episode on Wednesday, three Indian Army personnel died in an accident in Jammu & Kashmir. The deceased soldiers were conducting a usual operational task in the Machhal Sector in Kupwara region.
Amongst the three army men was present the Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO). The tragic loss occurred after their vehicle skidded off a track covered with snow.
They were flung into a gorge and died on spot. The victims' bodies have been recovered from the area, stated an army official. Following the incident, Army's Chinar Corps tweeted from their official Twitter handle and expressed grieve.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 6:30 pm. The place of incident has been witnessing heavy snowfall for several days now.
In December 2022, as many as 16 jawaans got killed in a similar accident that took place in North Sikkim. The episode occurred after the truck they were travelling in, skidded in a steep slope and fell into a gorge.
3 junior commissioned officers (JCO) and 13 soldiers soldiers were present inside the vehicle. A statement from the Indian Army clarified that the truck was on its way to Zema when the accident took place.
Four soldiers were rescued from the spot, however the 16 other jawans succumbed to their injuries. Rajnath Singh, the defence minister tweeted regarding the matter expressed his condolences to the families of the bravehearts.
He through the tweet, emphasised how grateful the entire nation is for their immense contribution. In 2022, November, three Indian soldiers lost their lives after coming under an avalanche.
The incident occurred in the same location as the latest occurrence, in Machhil area of Kupwara in Jammu & Kashmir. The army personnels were members of the Army's 55 Rashtriya Rifles.
