New Delhi: State-owned carrier Air India had announced a special scheme for senior citizens. Air India offers concession of 50% on the base airfare. This scheme is only applicable to domestic flights and flyers should be above the age of 60 are eligible to avail the scheme.

According to the announcement in Air India's website, the national carrier had put up a criterion in which only the eligible people would be permitted to avail the offer.

The offer had mentioned that a senior citizen of Indian nationality, a permanent resident of India and should have attained the age of 60 years on the date of commencement of journey.

A concession of 50% on "basic fare on select booking classes in Economy cabin" is made available, as per the official announcement in Air India's website.

The tickets will have to be purchased three days before the date of travel and the offer on the same is going to be valid for a year.

During the time of booking, any valid photo ID with date of birth, for instance, voter's ID card, passport, driving licence, senior citizen ID card issued by Air India would need to be furnished for availing the offer while booking the ticket.

However, in case the relevant ID or document is not submitted at the time of check-in or at the boarding point, the basic fare will automatically be fortified and the tickets will become non-refundable, only taxes and levies will be refunded, as per Air India's website.

Naturally, the boarding will be denied if valid identity proof is not provided at the time of check-in and at the boarding point.

This concession is applicable on Air India operated flights and Alliance Air codeshare flights. The concessions are not applicable on Regional connectivity Alliance Air codeshare flights and Air India Express codeshare Domestic flights.
