68-year-old priest arrested in Bengaluru for sexual harassment

Bengaluru: A 68-year-old priest was arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly sexually abusing a ten-year-old minor girl. The accused, Venkataramanappa, was arrested on Wednesday.

The police said that the accused, Venkataramanappa, a priest at a local temple went to his daughter's house on Tuesday. His daughter and son-in-law, who is also a priest in Devanahalli were out of town. Venkataramanappa went there to perform the prayers on Tuesday evening.

The victim, the minor girl lived near the couple's house. She went there to play on Tuesday. The accused took the girl inside the house to give her sweets and sexually abused her. The parents of the minor started searching for the girl as she did not return home for long.

The parents got the first clue of their daughter being in the priest's house when a flower vendor said that he saw her going inside the priest's house. When they reached the house, they saw the girl crying.

The minor's family approached the police after learning about what has happened to their daughter. The police arrested the Venkataramanappa on Wednesday.

The accused, Venkataramanappa has confessed to the crime. The CCTV footage also shows the girl going inside the priest's house. He has been booked under sections four and six of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act And section 176 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
