NEW DELHI: 7-year-old Saanvi Sood from Mohali, stood as the youngest person to climb the base camp of Mount Everest.

She is a student of the 2nd standard in Yadavindra Public School. She reached the base camp on June 9. For the young climber, this is a trailblazer to the higher peaks.

She says, "It was tough but I was determined to reach the summit. Someday, I will scale the Everest". She conquered the summit along with her father Deepak Sood, who is a civil contractor and has projects in Himachal Pradesh. Her father said, "She got the inspiration after watching the film 'Everest'. As I have business in Himachal Pradesh, she was fascinated by the mountains. She has been accompanying me to smaller mountain peaks but after watching the film, she was so inspired that she asked me if we could go to Everest. However, since she is only seven, she was not allowed to go beyond the base camp. She reached a height of 5,364 meters".

A few days back, another mountaineer named Rhythm Mamania who is a resident of Worli, became the youngest mountaineer to climb the Everest base camp. The young mountaineer completed the track and reached the base camp at 5,364 meters, in 11 days. She climbed this stretch with her parents Urmi and Harshal Mamania.

The director-principal of Yadavindra Public School, TPS Waraich, acclaims Saanvi Sood as an exceptional student, who is passionate about mountaineering, cycling and skating.
