A New World Record in Diwali: Over 3 lakh ‘diya’ lit on Banks of Sarayu River

Guwahati: This Diwali is set to make new records for India as on the eve of Diwali on Tuesday as over three lakh diyas were lit in the holy city of Ayodhya. This is the biggest number of earthen lamps being lit in a Diwali and certainly, the banks of the Sarayu river was all shining and bright on Tuesday.

The official adjudicator of the Guinness World Records, Rishi Nath made the announcement that the record was created at the Deepotsav event on the ghats here. Mr. Nath states, “A total of 3,01,152 diya were lit up simultaneously for a period of five minutes, which is a new record.” While announcing the attainment of the World Record, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and South Korean First Lady Kim Jung-sook were also present in the event.

However, the actual target of lighting earthen lamps was more than this. The initial target was to illuminate a total of 3.35 lakh diya on both sides of the ghats at Ram Ki Paidi.

Mr. Nath adds, “It beat the earlier record set in Haryana in 2016, where at an event 1,50,009 diya was lit.” while announcing this new world record, the official said that the new record is “phenomenal”.
