AMRITSAR: Punjabi actor and activist Deep Sidhu who came in limelight during the farmer's protest on Republic Day 2021 died in a car crash on Tuesday 15 February.

The accident occurred on the KMP (Kundli-Manesar-Palwal) highway close to Sonipat in Haryana.

Sidhu died after his Scorpio car hit the rear of a truck as confirmed by DSP Law & Order, Sonipat, Virendra Singh.

As per information from the police, the incident took place in night hours at around 09:00 pm near Peepli toll booth on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal which is in the Kharkhoda area of Haryana.

Sidhu was immediately taken to a civil hospital in Kharkhoda and was declared dead by the doctors.

Reportedly, before the accident took place Deep Sidhu was travelling with his friend Punjabi actress and both were heading towards Punjab. His friend had sustained injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, it is informed that she is in better condition currently.

The investigation over the car accident is going on at present as the actual cause of death is not yet known.

Meanwhile, the chief minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi expressed his grief over the sudden and unfortunate death of social activist and renowned actor of Punjab. He further paid condolences to the family members of Sidhu.

Many other political leaders and Punjab film personalities expressed their sadness over the demise of Deep Sidhu.

The 37-year-old actor turned activist Sidhu is a well-known personality in Punjab as he appeared in many Punjabi films with his debut Ramta Jogi produced by actor Dharmendra.

The actor and activities had made headlines at the time of farmer's protest and in the Republic Day violence during the rally by farmers on 26 January 2021.

During Republic Day in the previous year, the Delhi police had filed 25 FIRs against protestors and farm union leaders for destroying property and stamping the Red Fort.

Deep Sidhi was accused of being the main conspirator of the Red Violence last year. On 9 February 2021, he was detained by Delhi police for his extreme involvement in the violence during the farmer's tractor parade which was staged against 3 agricultural laws by the center.
