After Majuli Boat Mishap Passengers Were Seen Crossing Brahmaputra By Govt Ferry, Wearing Life Jackets

This has come after media has reported that many life jackets are lying unused in Nimatighat's passenger restroom.

According to latest reports, two persons identified as Dr. Bikramjit Baruah a residence of Jorhat and Jaan Baruah of Lakhimpur are yet to be found. Reportedly Jaan Baruah's backpack was recovered from Ganesh Ghat of Tezpur, nearly 180 Km from the accident spot. Documents and pan card recovered have confirmed the fact.

The former chief minister of Assam who is now union minister Sarbananda Sonowal reached his constituency which is Majuli today and said that the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanata Biswa Sarma has ordered for an investigation to find and punish the persons engaged behind the incident.

On September 8th a ferry inbound from Majuli collided with a boat leaving from Nimatghat. The boat capsized resulting in the death of an Asstt Prof of a college from Majuli.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma issued strict instructions after the boat accident reached Majuli. The closure was ordered by a single-engine dispersal ferry.

It also allowed six government ships to operate instead of private ships. Passengers will also not be able to travel onboard without wearing a life jacket.

It was then that passengers were seen boarding a government ship in Majuli wearing a life jacket today. Some have welcomed the government's decision.
