KOLKATA: Saffron party leader Rakesh Singh was apprehended in connection with a drugs seizure case from West Bengal's East Burdwan district.

The arrest was made after BJP youth wing leader Pamela Goswami, who was arrested on February 19 for allegedly carrying 90 grams of cocaine accused Singh of framing her.

According to reports, Singh was allegedly fleeing from West Bengal in a car. Meanwhile, police have also arrested Singh's two sons for allegedly trying to prevent them from entering their residence over the absence of a search warrant, which arrived later. The sons were identified as Suvam Singh, 25, and Saheb Singh, 21.

Further, on February 24 Rakesh Singh was produced before Alipore court in West Bengal capital Kolkata.

It is to be mentioned that earlier a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth leader was arrested in Kolkata with 100 gm cocaine on February 19.

The accused identified as Pamela Goswami who is the General Secretary of Bengal BJP Yuva Morcha was apprehended with cocaine worth lakhs in her purse and also under the seat of the car she was in.

Notably, along with her Prabir Kumar Dey, a party worker of Yuva Morcha was also arrested.

The incident took place when Pamela and her associate was driving towards a cafe on NR Avenue in the upscale New Alipore area when police stopped them and apprehended them.

Upon checking her belongings and the car, about 100 gm of cocaine were allegedly found in pouches in Goswami's purse and also under the car seat. Reacting to the arrest of Pamela Goswami, BJP's Samik Bhattacharya said,

"The law will take its own course but was the cocaine put in the car by someone? The model code of conduct has still not kicked in. And the police is under state control. anything could have happened."

Before joining politics, Pamela Goswami was a model, air hostess and then went on to become a Bengali television actress.
