New Delhi- On Sunday, Dr. Naveet Wig, the head of the department of Medicines in the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said that the positivity rate of the novel coronavirus can be brought down to under 5% in the coming 3 weeks if we as a collective society take responsibility and adhere to COVID-appropriate behavior. 

Dr. Naveet Wig, while on a joint conference with the Director of AIIMS (Delhi ) Dr. Randeep Guleria, Director General of Health Services (DGHS), Dr. Sunil Kumar, and Chairman of Medanta Dr. Naresh Trehan discussing the current coronavirus situation in the country said the following, "We can bring down the positivity rate to less than five percent in India, in the next three weeks if we all take responsibility and abide by COVID appropriate behaviour."  Read more

Dr. Wig went on to further call attention to the imposition of COVID-appropriate restrictions in order to curb the spread of the deadly infectious disease and reduce the positivity rate of the coronavirus. 

He suggested to all district officials to keep a close eye and monitor the district's positivity rate and make sure it stays below 1-5 percent. He said that the city of Mumbai, which at one time had a 26 percent positivity rate came down to 14 percent after several restrictions were put into place. He also said that restrictions must be imposed in Delhi as the national capital currently has a positivity rate of 30 percent. Read more

In the meanwhile, India yet again witnessed a new highest single-day spike in the cases of the novel coronavirus as a deadly second wave sweeps the country with 3.52 Lakh New Cases and 2,812 Covid-induced fatalities, taking the total active caseload in the country to 28.07 lakh cases. So far, there have been 1.95 lakh covid-induced deaths from across the nation. The fresh surge in the cases of this deadly infectious disease takes the total tally of cases to 1.73 crores. Read more

Today marks the fifth consecutive day that India reported over 3 lakh cases on a daily basis. A staggering 10 lakh cases have been reported in the last 72 hours.
