KOLKATA: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty's meeting with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat raised many questions ahead of poll-bound West Bengal.

According to reports, the meeting that lasted for around 90 minutes has sparked speculations in political circles suggesting the actor and former Member of Parliament of joining the saffron party.

However, Chakraborty told the media that the meeting had nothing to do with politics as he is away from it now and wants to remain an actor.

Who is Mithun Chakraborty?

Mithun Chakraborty is a famous Indian actor, entrepreneur and social activist. He was the ex-member of Rajya Sabha of the Parliament. He bagged National film award for best actor for his debut movie Mrigaya (1976), an arthouse drama. He took birth in Dimla, Bengal on June 16, 1950. He completed his graduation in chemistry (Bachelor of Science) from Nilphamari Government College, Nilphamari.

Later because of his interest in art and drama, he joined and got a degree from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune.

His professional life:

In 1982, he worked as the character of Jimmy in the movie Disco Dancer which has gained much popularity not only in India but outside our country. And from then, he was popularly named 'Disco Dancer' for his hook steps in the popular song 'i am a Disco Dancer'.

Mithun Chakraborty is married to Yogita Bali who is also an Indian actor and are blessed with 4 children. 3 sons and one daughter. Mimoh Chakraborty, his eldest son made his debut entry in Bollywood in a film released in 2008, Jimmy.

Apart from that, he was well-known for his amazing performance in some movies like wanted, boxer, sahhas, Surakksha, Avinash, Dance Dance, Agneepath, the Don, Jallaad, Mujrim etc. For the film Agneepath, he won Filmfare award for the best supporting role.

Later he won 2 National Film Awards for the movies Swami Vivekananda (1998) and Tahader Katha (1992). He worked in about three fifty movies in different languages and he made a record in Limca Book of record for working as lead actor in nineteen films in the year 1989.

Mithun Chakraborty made his debut movie Mrigaya (1976) directed by Mrinal Sen for which he was awarded National Film Award for best actor for his phenomenal work and acting skills. After that, he too was the part of certain movies named Do Anjaane (1976) and Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan (1977) which didn't work very well for him.

TV shows:

He was the judged of the Indian TV reality show Dance India Dance which was on ZeeTV.

Sports:

Mithun had quite an interest in sports, especially in football and so he actively participated in the promotion of football in Bengal. He played an active role in raising funds for launching the football academy named the Bengal Football Academy.

He was also one of the members actively handling the Indian Cricket league team, the Royal Bengal Tigers.
